The difference between online roulette and land-based traditional roulette is that the first is played on your computer with you sitting at home while the second is played in a casino which is located away from your place where you have to go physically to play for money on a real wheel and real money. According to the rules you have to place your chips on the board before the wheel starts spinning. This can be done by clicking on number or numbers or the combination you want to play. The dealer on the screen starts the game by spinning the wheel and the ball.
Once the ball and the wheel starts to slow down the ball finally comes to rest on a particular number. The dealer announces the number, pays off the winners, and collects the losing bets.
The betting pattern remains strictly same wherever you are playing. The bets are fixed odds which mean that they do not change. You can choose any site to play in but the pay off percentage remains the same. Different betting has different payouts. When you make a straight bet or on a single number the payout is 35 to 1. This means that if you win you receive 35 times the number you have betted on.
If you play for money and bet $5 on number 8 and 8 is the winning number you get 35×8, i.e., $280. The payoffs are low or high according to its level. It is well known that betting on single number and winning it is very difficult so the odds are more in this. In a split bet two numbers, the pay out is 17:1; in street bet- three numbers, the payout is 11:1; square gets 8:1; in line bet it is 5:1; for dozen and column you get 2:1. As the betting becomes wider and the chances of winning better the payout ratio keeps decreasing.
Another thing to be kept in mind that there are two types of wheel when you are playing online live roulette. The European wheel has numbers from 1 to 36 plus a slot for 0. The American wheel has two 0 slots, single 0 and double 0 (00). These slots are in green on the wheel. Due to the presence of an extra zero slot house edge is slightly more in American roulette table. Otherwise the slots are in red and black holding numbers which are not in any sequential order. Except for the extra zero both the wheels follow the same rules.
